Frequency regulation with local control
September 3rd, 2023
In Svk’s requirements, there are limitations on the total capacity (measured in MW) that can be dispatched using so-called central control. This limitation may prevent you from using your energy storage across all markets. Aire operates solely with local control. In other words, our installations are not subject to these limitations.
Local control means that all time-sensitive information is sent locally between devices connected in the same wired network. We measure and analyze the network locally and give all instructions to the battery locally. At least once a day, a schedule is sent to our local computer from the cloud, and in return, operational data from the previous day is uploaded to the cloud. This allows us to report all necessary statistics and information from your device to SvK.
With central control, network analysis is done centrally somewhere within your power area. The information from the analysis needs to be sent in real-time to your device over the internet. This means that the device is always dependent on a good connection, and thus there is a risk that the device may not be able to deliver what it should in the event of a connection disruption. It can also lead to a delay that affects the performance of your energy storage.
